Super Bowl Drabbles

(Use at least one of the following words:  Colts, Bears, football, championship)

ATF

"What's wrong kid?" Vin asked JD when he joined him out in the barn while the others were inside getting ready for their annual Super Bowl party.

"Nothing," JD replied brushing his horse as he tried to avoid look at Vin and those all seeing eyes of his.

"I thought you might still be a little bummed by the Championship game when the Colts came back from behind to beat the Patriots," Vin told his
friend.

"Behind, they were 21 points down!" JD yelled turning to poke Vin in the chest with his brush.  "21 points and the Patriots couldn't hold 'em."

Vin just smiled knowing now that he got JD started he might find out what was really bothering his friend.

"I know it's just a football game, but it hurt.  They sucked me in to thinking they were gonna win."

"Yeah, it's tough when your team folds on you," Vin agreed.  "Especially when your friends keep reminding you they lost."

"Colts and Bears," JD said his own smile starting to form, "that's all Buck can talk about since the playoffs."

"How about the two of us skip the pre-game and go for a ride," Vin offered.

"Really," JD said unable to keep the excitement out of his voice.  "You love football."

"I do," Vin admitted his face lighting up with a huge smile, "but I care about my friends more."

OW

Chris and Vin were returning from Kojay's village where they took the dead bear from their successful hunt.  Neither man had wanted to kill the
bear but both knew the animal had been injured and that made him a danger.  He had already killed some chickens belonging to one of the
ranchers that surrounded the town they were paid to protect.  The thought of the bear turning to larger prey, or God forbid one of the children of
the homesteaders, forced them into the hunt.

Chris heard a familiar sound, pulling Pony to a stop near the cliff Chris looked out over the meadow that was just below them.  Vin was happy to
see the relaxed smile his friend wore while they watched the herd of wild horses race around the meadow.

"You know a man could win that there horse racing championship the territory holds each year with that sorrel colt," Vin commented.

"Yep, take a year or two to get him ready but you're right, that colt a beauty," Chris added.

"Two men working with him steady like might have him ready for next year's race," Vin said looking away from the meadow to make eye contact
with Chris.

"Or at least have a good time trying," Chris agreed.  "You do know we got a snowball's chance in hell of catching that colt, don't you."

"Yep, could be fun to try," Vin replied.

"Let's do it," Chris said just before the two friends whooped and hollered as they rode down the hill into the meadow for some carefree fun.

Cabin Fever Drabbles

OW

Vin was like a caged animal pacing back and forth.  A week, he couldn't believe he'd been trapped in this boarding house for a week.  A tired
voice called out to him making the Texan stop pacing as he walked over to the bed to pour a drink of water.

"How you feeling?" Vin asked his friend.

"Been better," Chris said softly.  Smiling as he added, "Been worse too.  I'm sorry about this."

"Not your fault," Vin insisted.

"If you hadn't found me and brought me back to the boarding house you might not have gotten stuck in the quarantine," Chris told him.

*If I hadn't found you, you might be dead too,* Vin thought but didn't say.  He and Chris both knew he'd gladly stay in the quarantine if it meant
Chris was alive.  They'd had this talk before, if nothing else it took their minds off the trapped feeling.

Vin had found Chris out on the trail and was bringing him to Nathan.  By the time the two men got back to town several of the towns people had
taken sick, including Nathan.  Ezra remembered there was a doctor on the stage that had left town an hour before so Buck and JD took off after
the stage to bring the man back to town while Josiah did what he could for the sick.

The doctor took one look at the number of sick and ordered a quarantine for the boarding house.  It was just back luck that Vin was inside at the
time.

At first it wasn't so bad, Chris wasn't the only one sick and since they didn't want to risk anyone else only those who were already exposed stayed
to help provide the care.  Now that everyone was finally on the road to recovery Vin was anxious to breathe some fresh air.

Vin tried everything he could think of to talk the Doc into letting him out.  The man insisted 10 day to be safe, they were on day 8.  Taking a deep
breath Vin said, "Only got two more days, I can do that.  At least we're both stuck."

Vin was happy to see a slight smile forming on Chris' face.  "Yeah, at least you have the whole building to move around in.  Damn doctor won't let
me get outta bed."

"Yep, I got the whole place to fetch and carry for all you sick people," Vin said making a face that brought about the desired laugh from Chris.

"How are the others really?"

"It was touch and go for some of them, but everyone's on the mend now."

"I really do feel bad that you can't leave, but I'm glad you're here."

"Me too, Cowboy," Vin told Chris both men reaching out to grasp each others arm in their familiar bond of friendship.

ATF

Vin had just finished bandaging JD arm when they heard the front door of Buck and JD's apartment.  "Thought you said Buck was on a date and
would be late?" Vin asked in a hushed voice.

"He is," JD whispered peeking out of the bathroom door.  "It's Buck and his date."

"Good, let's get out of here."  Vin relaxed knowing Buck was no threat he headed for the door.

JD quickly closed the door to block Vin from leaving the bathroom.  "Are you nuts?"  Holding out his arm JD added, "Do you really want to get
another lecture on how we are trouble magnets who can't be trusted together."

"No," Vin agreed, "but I don't want to spend the night in the bathroom either."

"It's Buck give him five minutes they'll be in his room and we can sneak out," JD suggested.

Vin wasn't sure that was a good idea but Buck had been riding JD a lot this last week.  He didn't look up to another run in tonight.  They could tell
the truth; that JD cut his arm when he was helping their elderly neighbor and she forgot she had the knife in her hand.  No, JD was right they
would get a lecture before Buck would calm down enough to listen to them explain.

"Okay, we'll wait," Vin agreed.

Two hours later they were still waiting.  "What are they doing now?" Vin asked as he practiced his juggling with the roller bandages from the first
aid kit.

"Buck's showing her our photo albums.  He must really like her, he usually doesn't share that stuff with his dates.  Damn!"

"What happened?"

"He just got them a bottle of wine."

"Isn't that good, doesn't that mean he's finally making his move."

"He put in a DVD while he was up," JD explained.

"Damn," Vin said slumping back against the wall.  "Let's take our chances and get outta here."

"We can't do that; they'll know we've been in here the whole time.  Spying on them, while they you know."

JD's puppy dog eyes beat out Vin's boredom, "Okay, we'll give them until the movie ends, but Buck's animal magnetism better kick in by then."

Silent "B" Drabbles

(Use one of the following words: debt, doubt, crumb, dumb, numb, thumb, lamb, climb, bomb, comb)

ATF

Josiah shook his numb legs trying to get some feeling back into them.  Dang, he was getting too old for these stakeouts.  They had been hiding
out on the cold Denver night for three hours now.  The whole team knew catching Hector Martinez was the key to bringing down the gang of gun
runners they had been investigating for the last three months.

One of Vin's sources gave him a tip that Hector and some friends would be in park tonight, resulting in the members of Team Seven hiding in the
trees and bushes hoping to capture their quarry.  The sound of voices approached their position gave them hope that Vin's source was right.

Hector was almost within their grasp when something tipped the men off to the presence of the famed ATF team.  They split up and took off
running.  Josiah was attempting to jump up when he saw Vin and JD climb out of the trees they were in and take off after the fleeing men.  Josiah
has no doubt the two youngest had the situation well in control so he stayed where he was trying to locate the rest of the team.

A noise from the bushes alerted Josiah he wasn't alone.  Pulling his gun Josiah called out, "Be best if you come on out of there son."

Josiah chuckled when he heard some cussing as Hector Martinez himself crawled out with his hands raised.  Looking at Josiah the young
criminal said, "How'd you know to stay."

"With age comes wisdom," Josiah replied smiling as he watched the rest of his teammates return with Hector's friends.

OW

Vin couldn't hold back his smile as he watched Buck and Ezra struggle with the load of lumber they had brought out to Nettie's place.

"Damnit," Buck called out when the boards slipped smashing his thumb.

"Quit whining and let's finish this debt of honor, I assure you the ladies of town will give you the proper amount of sympathy for your injury," Ezra
called back.

Nettie brought out a tray with some lemonade and cookies.  Nettie set her tray down on the small table between the two chairs on her porch
before sitting in the chair next to Vin.  Pouring two lemonades, Nettie handed one to Vin with a plate of the cookies before taking the second for
herself.

"I'm not sure I want to know how you got those two to agree to fix the barn door," Nettie told Vin.

"Ez should have known better that to take Buck's word the bet was a sure thing," Vin replied before taking a sip of his lemonade.  "Neither one of
them could believe that JD would beat Casey in that horse race."

Nettie laughed, "Well, it wasn't a very gentlemanly thing to do."

"Nope," Vin agreed joining her in laughter, "but it sure was good for JD's ego."

Christmas Drabbles

(challenge ~ something about the Christmas season.)

OW

JD walked into the saloon carrying a box and whistling a happy tune as he approached the Christmas tree in the corner.  He put the box on the
table next to the tree and started digging through it.

"JD," Chris said as he walked in the door, "Mrs Potter has the supplies ready for Nettie and Casey."

"You should head out now," Buck added, "might make it back for dinner if you do."

"Can't someone else take them," JD tried, "I need to decorate the tree."

"You're the one that promised Nettie, son," Josiah reminded him.

"But the tree," JD said knowing in his heart he was going to Casey's.

"Will still be here when you get back," Vin told him.

"It's been so busy I didn't get the decorations on the tree yet and this is my last chance," JD hoped one of his friends would help him out.

Ezra began to laugh saying, "Are you worried St Nicholas won't come if the tree isn't properly adorned."

That one comment set the others off as they began to tease JD about believing in Santa Claus laughing at their witty comments.  JD did a slow
burn only hearing the roar of voices as his anger took over.

"I been knocking myself out trying to make our first Christmas special for all of us," JD told him, his voice full of anger and hurt.  "Vin's the only
one who has helped me at all, and that was just to get the tree.  I thought it would be nice to have a family Christmas with my friends."  Dropping
the decoration in his hand back in the box JD added, "Just forget the whole thing."

The others watched JD storm outside to the wagon.  Buck started to follow until Josiah grabbed his arm saying, "Best let him calm down a little
before you talk to him."

They heard JD call to the horse as he left town for Nettie's place.  The silence surrounding the men was broken by Vin saying, "Does anybody else
feel like ya just kicked the pup?"

Nods of agreement by the others gave Vin a plan.  "Let's make it up to him," Vin suggested rising from his chair to walk over to the box JD left in
his anger and hurt.  Pulling out some small pine cones Vin began to decorate the tree.

JD was feeling better by the time he got back.  He knew the others didn't mean to hurt him.  They didn't understand and he snapped at them
rather than try to explain.  On the trip back he had decided it didn't matter if they had a decorated tree or a fancy dinner, they had each other and
that was the important part.

Prepared to apologize for his outburst JD was surprised to see they had not only decorated the tree but the rest of the saloon as well and had a
delicious dinner waiting to be served when he arrived.  Warm smiles greeted him making JD feel a surge of Christmas spirit.

Chris walked up and held out a carved star for the top saying, "We saved the star for you JD."

"We reckoned since you're the one that gave us Christmas, the least we could do was save the job of putting the star on for you," Vin added as
the others made a path for JD.

JD took the star from Chris, trying to control the flood of emotions filling him up.  Afraid he would lose control if he talked too much JD simply
said, "Thank you."

ATF

Vin took a deep breath to calm his nerves as he knocked on Ezra's door.  Ezra was a little surprised to find Vin at his doorstep.

"Is there something I can assist you with Mr Tanner," Ezra asked not inviting Vin inside his home.

"I thought maybe we could do something," Vin said willing Ezra to understand.

"I would think you would have taken refuse at Mr Larabee's ranch if you were lonely," Ezra challenged trying to find out what was really going on.

Vin's head dropped and Ezra thought he wasn't going to get an answer at first.  Then Vin looked up to confess, "Chris is my best friend and I can
tell him anything but he wouldn't understand not wanting to be alone again on Christmas."

"And you think I would," Ezra said harsher than he meant since his heart was pounding.

Ezra didn't miss the hurt that flashed through Vin's eyes just before he mumbled, "Never mind, Christmas is just a day nothing special," as he
turned to leave.

"Wait," Ezra walked out chasing Vin, "Mr Tanner… Vin… I do understand.  I've been feeling rather lonely and I apologize for letting Maude's
teachings not to let anyone see what you are feeling come out so readily."

Vin turned back a soft smile forming, "I understand about hidin' your feelings too."

"I'd be willing to bet if we showed up together at Chris' he wouldn't ask as many questions," Ezra said excited at the prospect at having a friend
around for Christmas.

"Especially if we showed up with dinner," Vin added his smile growing with his excitement that this might be a good Christmas after all.

The two men entered Ezra's apartment making their Christmas plans and feeling the warmth of the season fill them with happiness.

Movie Titles Drabbles
(challenge use five movie titles in the story, the titles are in all caps)

OW

Vin smiled at the way Ezra's face lit up when they saw THE DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN get off the afternoon STAGECOACH.

"Please excuse me Mr Tanner, duty calls," Ezra told him as he tried to appear not to be rushing over to greet the man.

Vin was able to hide his laughter as Ezra escorted the man into the saloon to join him in a game of poker.  "Our friend looks down right giddy,"
Buck said as he walked up to Vin.

"Yep," Vin agreed, "wanna go watch the fun."

Buck laughed as said, "After you."

Vin and Buck joined Nathan and Josiah inside the saloon for a beer, relaxing as they watched the action at Ezra's table.  They all agreed watching
Ezra in action was poetry in motion.

Their curiosity was peaked when JD walked in took one long look at Ezra's companion and left only to come back a few minutes later with Chris.

"Ezra," Chris said.

Ezra interrupted whatever Chris wanted to say with, "Please Mr Larabee I must ask that you DO NOT DISTURB me."

Chris smiled his sly smile as he replied, "If you don't want a TOMBSTONE with your name on it anytime soon you'll come with me."

"I'll fold," Ezra told his companions calmly.  He gathered up his money telling the men at the table, "I am sincerely sorry to prematurely end the
game, however, it appears my services are needed elsewhere.  Perhaps when I conclude my business we may resume our game."

Ezra walked out of the saloon slowly heading directly to the jail.  Vin, Buck, Nathan, and Josiah shared a quick look before they followed Chris and
JD to join Ezra.

"Calm down Ezra," Chris said as he walked through the door to the jail, "JD recognized the man on the stage from an alert.  He's been on a CRIME
SPREE in the area."

"I don't understand why you had to drag me away rather than just arrest him," Ezra said calming down some with Chris' explanation.

"He gets into friendly games of poker then accuses a player of cheating, immediately shooting his target with the gun hidden under the table.  His
victim's didn't stand a chance."

Ezra slumped back against the desk, in shock at what Chris had revealed.  "It appears I owe you and JD a debt for getting me away from the man."

"Heck Ezra, no debt owed," JD insisted, "that's what friends do for each other."

"I am a wealthy man indeed," Ezra said holding out his hand to JD.

Vin looked at the others from his place near the window where he had been watching the saloon.  "He's still inside, we got a plan to catch 'em."

This time it was Chris' face that lit up as he said with a smirk, "Yep."

ATF

Note:  I couldn't resist using seven titles in this one.  

"Earth to Vin," Buck said nudging their sharpshooter.

"What," Vin said snapping out of his daze.

"Something going on Vin," Josiah spoke up concerned for his friend, "you seemed miles away."

"Sorry, I was thinking about the homework a couple of the kids told me about," Vin explained taking a sip of his beer.

It had been one of those weeks where everything kept going wrong at work.  They had decided to all met at the saloon for a drink to celebrate
the end of the week before heading their separate ways for the weekend.

Vin realized he need to tell them the rest so he added, "You know Miguel and Rosa?"  Vin waited for their nods before continuing, "They told me
their teacher told them to make sentences using movie titles in the sentence."

"That sounds like an interesting assignment," Josiah said his mind trying to come up with one.

"Yeah, I been sitting here coming up with ideas," Vin confessed.  "Like, let's get AD Travis to use his power to make an EXECUTIVE DECISION and
give us next week off, with pay."

"He most certainly should, after all there is a CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER to our physical well being if we do not have a break soon," Ezra added
lifting his glass to Vin in a salute.

"Hey, those are great," JD said laughing, "let me try one.  Oh, I got it.  We have definitely been IN THE LINE OF FIRE this last month."

They other's joined in laughing with JD until Chris stood up and started to pile up the empty food plates on their table saying, "With this bunch
around I feel like MR MOM always having to clean up after you."

Vin broke out laughing followed closely by Chris and the others.  "Good one Cowboy."

Inez wasn't sure what they were laughing about but when she saw Chris stacking the dishes she rushed over to clear their table.

"Inez darlin'," Buck said taking her hand, "did you come to KISS ME GOODBYE?"

Vin caught Inez's hand when they started to laugh telling her, "We’re playing a game using movie titles."  He relaxed again when he saw her nod
along with the humor in her eyes, the last thing they needed this week was to have Inez mad at them.

Vin's explanation helped Inez make sense of what she heard Chris say as she was walking to their table.  Joining in their laughter Inez cleared
their table asking, "Another round?"

"Please Inez," Josiah told her, "we're going to need it when we realize Vin's plan for AD Travis is MISSION IMPOSSIBLE."

"Not only that," Nathan added winking at Inez, "we still have time to kill for the RUSH HOUR to be over."

Inez was laughing along with them as she carried the dishes to the kitchen before bring them two more pitches of beer.

Hoarse Horse Drabbles

OW

Drenched to the skin Nathan rode his horse into town.  A small part of him knew he should have stopped when the rain started but he was too
wet and tired to care.  Pulling his horse to a stop in front of the stables Nathan didn't have the energy to do anything but sit there.

Fortunately Vin and Chris were leaving the stable when Nathan rode up.  One look told them something was wrong.  Vin grabbed Nathan's reins
and led his horse into the stable with Nathan still in the saddle.

Once they were out of the rain Chris asked, "You all right, Nathan?"

"I'm cold," came the hoarse reply.

Vin and Chris smiled as they gave each other a knowing look before the started to help their sick friend.  The two men had the stable boy find the
others to meet them in the clinic and left Nathan's horse in Yosemite's capable hands before helping Nathan up the stairs.

The others arrived quickly and without a word each took a job to aid their healer as he had done for them numerous times.  It didn't take long for
them to have Nathan stripped out of his wet clothes, dry, and in bed warming up with a cheery fire burning brightly.

Vin approached the bed carrying a mug in his hand.  "Feeling better Nate," he asked.

The happy sigh and nod told them he was warming back up.  "I made some of your tea for you," Vin said holding out the mug.

Nathan glared at him and his hoarse voice rasped out, "I ain't drinkin' that horse piss."

ATF

Vin made sure the coast was clear before he crawled out the window of the back bedroom at Chris' ranch.  If he didn't get away from his well
meaning friends he would do or say something he would regret.

Vin knew they thought of him as a intelligent man capable to taking care of most any situation, except when he got hurt or sick.  Then they treated
him like he was a three year old unable to make any decisions for himself.  In his heart Vin was aware his cold made him crankier than normal so
stuff he would ignore was getting on his nerves.  He also acknowledged that his friends were smothering him because they cared, which felt
really good.

Vin figured he'd pay the price later but right now freedom meant more to him.  He doubted the fact that he left a note would cut him any slack from
another lecture on being irresponsible.  Chris was the one who ordered him to do the stakeout and Buck was the one who had the hot date he
couldn't miss leaving Vin to do the stakeout alone so he couldn't take a break and warm up in the car during the frigid night.

Quietly making his way to the barn Vin's hoarse voice cracked as he calmed Peso down while he quickly saddled him and lead him out the back
door.  One last look around before Vin mounted his horse and rode toward the trees.  Once he was out of sight Vin sighed as a feeling a peace
filled him.  Yep, this was worth the lectures he would get.  Sometimes a man just has to be free.

Wildlife Drabbles

ATF

Buck was frantic, JD and Vin had left their cabin over four hours ago saying they were going for a short walk.

"Relax Buck," Chris said stretching his legs out in front of him.  "They are big boys and can take care of themselves."

"This trip is supposed to be a chance for all of us to kick back and not do anything," Josiah added looking up from his book.

Buck looked over at Nathan and Ezra who were enjoying a game of chess.  He knew he wouldn't find any help there.  Resigning himself to waiting
for their missing friends Buck settled in.

From their hiding place near the river JD whispered, "Look Vin, a whole family of deer."

Vin snapped some pictures on his camera as they watched the family sniff before deciding it was safe to drink.  "This place is perfect, I'm getting
some great shots," Vin whispered back.  "What are we up to?"

JD look at the list he had been making, "Beavers, mountain lions, rabbits, elk, bears, skunks, and now deer, this has been awesome.  We're lucky
you found this place."

Vin and JD were both so thrilled at finding the water hole for several of the forest inhabitants that they completely lost track of time until JD's
stomach growled loudly.

"Sorry," JD whispered.

"Damn, c'mon," Vin said as he started to crawl out from their hideout.  "We've been gone for almost five hours and told them we'd be back in one."

"Oops," JD said as the two started back to the cabin and their friends.

OW

Vin was awoken from his sleep by Ezra's desperate whisper, "Mr Tanner, please wake up."

Vin rolled over and started to answer when he saw the problem.  Sitting on Ezra's chest was bear cub.

"Easy Ez," Vin whispered, "don't spook 'em."

"Get this creature off me," Ezra replied his voice cracking.

Vin was franticly looking around as he tried to get his sleep clouded mind come up with a solution for their problem.

"What are you waiting for," Ezra hissed.

"Try to stay calm, I don't want to hurt 'em."

"Why ever not, as long as you don't hit me I don't see the problem."

"Ezra, think about it," Vin said as if that explained it all.  Looking around one more time he added, "Where there's a cub, there's a Mama who ain't
gonna be happy if we hurt her baby."

"I hadn't considered that possibility," Ezra admitted.

A sly smile crossed Vin's face, slowly Vin got out of his bedroll saying, "Hang on, I have an idea."

Ezra felt a drop as the cub drooled on him, using his strong willpower Ezra forced himself not to move.  "Can't you just push him off me?"

The simple wording of the question told Vin that Ezra was getting near the end of his rope.  "He might think we want to play," Vin explained softly,
"trust me you don't want to rough house with a bear."

"I understand," Ezra sighed, "please hurry with your plan."

Vin found what he was looking for and quickly returned to Ezra and the cub.  For the first time since he realized there was a bear on his chest
Ezra smiled seeing what was in Vin's hand.  "Perfect my friend," Ezra told Vin agreeing with Vin's idea.

Vin held out the biscuit he had poured honey on near the cub's nose.  The scent excited the cub who began to dance around on Ezra.  Vin took
the biscuit he had been waving around and threw it toward the bushes.  Just as planned the cub jumped off Ezra to chase after the treat.

Vin dropped to the ground next to Ezra, both men starting to laugh to release the built up stress.  The roar of the Mama bear calmed them both
down.  Listening carefully Vin said, "Hear that, the little fellas going to join up with Mama."

Ezra held out his hand to Vin.  As the two men shook hands Ezra said sincerely, "Thank you Vin.  Although the experience was unique and
thrilling, I hope you will understand if I plan to never repeat it."

"You and me both Pard," Vin replied as they started to laugh again.

Accomplishment Drabbles

ATF

JD sat on the stage nervously awaiting the presentation.  He looked out and smiled at his friends sitting in the front lending him their quiet
support.  It wasn't like this was the first time the team was honored, but it was the first time it was just him.  JD was aware of the fact that, although
his teammates knew his worth, others in law enforcement thought he was the weak link who couldn't get by without the others by his side.  Dang
if it didn't feel good to here to be honored by the law enforcement community for his actions alone.

Thinking back to that fateful day, JD remembered Casey had to rush back to class leaving him alone in the diner to finish his lunch.  JD had paid
his tab and was leaving when he stopped to pick up a teddy bear and hand it back to the little girl sitting in the booth with her pregnant Mom.  If
he hadn't stopped he would have been out of the diner when the woman's abusive husband showed up to drag her and his daughter back home
by gunpoint.

After a five hour standoff Dean Howard finally surrendered to the police.  Each and every person inside the diner said it was JD's actions that
saved them.  He never gave up on any of them, including Mr Howard.  For his calm, smart handling of the potentially fatal situation JD was being
honored as the law enforcement officer of the year.  The cherry on top was the fact that he was nominated by Lt. Johnson of the Denver Police
Department, a man who had never shown any respect for JD.

JD looked over at Vin, who gave him the thumbs up sign, both of them remembering walking together out of the diner when Lt. Johnson walked
up saying, "Hey Tanner, lucky for those people it was you in there and not the runt."

Vin grabbed Johnson and pulled him close as he said quietly in a cold voice, "You best find out all the facts jackass, if it wasn't for JD there would
have been a bloodbath in there."

Johnson listened to Vin and found out the whole story, so now here they all were listening to the Mayor rave about JD's heroics.  Mrs Howard,
her daughter, and the other five people who were inside the diner were sitting at the table next to Team Seven, JD had a hard time telling which
of the two tables was cheering loudest.

OW

"What did you say?" Vin asked not sure he heard correctly.

"I said this is excellent work and I don't see a need for any more lessons," Mary repeated.  "You've learned so quickly I don't know what else I can
teach you."

"Thank you, ma'am," Vin told Mary sincerely, "I don't know how I'm gonna repay you for the lessons."

"No Vin," Mary said, "it's I who has the debt to repay.  You have been a joy to teach."

The next day Vin, feeling proud of himself, sat in front of the saloon reading the Clarion.  Chris walked out of the saloon and handing Vin a cup of
coffee said, "Join you."

Vin nodded as he took a sip of his coffee before going back to his paper, a peaceful silent surrounding the two men.

"Hey Vin," Buck called out as he and JD walked up, "anything good in the paper?"

"Mary put in about that fight you two broke up a couple nights ago," Vin answered, "seems like you left a few details out when you told us the
story."

"What, let me see that," Buck roared tearing the paper out of Vin's hand, mumbling to himself as he headed over to the Clarion office.

"I thought you might like to read these Vin," JD said handing Vin three of his treasured dime store novels.

"Vin don't wanna read those JD," Nathan said before Vin could say anything.

"Nathan and I found a book more to your tastes Vin," Josiah added holding out a book to Vin.

"Mr Tanner," Ezra said as he joined the others surrounding Vin, "I was able to locate one of my favorite books of poetry that I thought you might
be interested in."

"Enough," Vin said, "I appreciate the offers.  If you don't mind I think I'll take JD up on his."

Soon it was just Vin and Chris again.  "What the hell was that all about?" Vin asked.

"That was their awkward way of letting you know they're proud of you," Chris said turning to look Vin in the eye, "we all are Cowboy."

Vin nodded his appreciation before settling back to start one of JD's dime store novels.

Oxymoron Drabbles

OW

Vin, Buck, Nathan, Josiah, and Ezra rode alongside of the wagon JD was driving with the supplies for the WORK PARTY at Chris' cabin.  Ezra had
tried to talk them into letting him stay in town as protection but his friends told him the town would survive one afternoon without their PEACE
FORCE.

They were almost to Chris' when Vin froze, hearing a SILENT SCREAM in his mind and knowing who it came from.

"Vin, what's wrong," Buck asked concerned as Vin's normal HEALTHY TAN turned almost white.

"Chris," Vin whispered harshly before nudging Peso into a run the rest of the way to Chris' cabin.

Buck barely spared a look for the others before taking off after Vin, the others following quickly behind.  By the time they arrived Vin was off Peso
and looking around for his friend, finding him behind the barn unconscious looking like the LIVING DEAD.

Nathan joined Vin at Chris' side, checking him over for injuries.  "He's got a PRETTY UGLY bump here, let's get him in the cabin so I can check him
out."

They carefully moved Chris to his bed and began undress him so Nathan could check for injuries.

"I don't know why Mr Larabee insists on wearing such TIGHT SLACKS," Ezra grumbled as he worked them off without jostling Chris too much.

"What happened?" Chris asked startling them.  "Damn, my head hurts."

"Looked like you fell off the barn roof," Vin answered.

"Some people will do anything to get out of work," Ezra joked.

"Jealous," Chris said laughing with Ezra.

Nathan ordered Chris to rest while Josiah hustled the others outside to begin their work leaving Vin and Chris ALONE TOGETHER.

"You really all right?" Vin asked.

"Yeah, been better but been worse too," Chris reassured.  "Of course it would be the SAME DIFFERENCE to me if you stayed with me so Ezra had
to do more of the work."

"Reckon I will," Vin replied as the two friends started to laugh.

ATF

Team Seven were spending a relaxing afternoon at Chris' ranch watching football games when Vin started to laugh for no apparent reason.

"What's so funny?" JD asked.

"Sorry, that last commercial always makes me laugh," Vin explained.  "Talking about fresh frozen turkeys, as opposed to what stale frozen."  The
others joined Vin in his laughter.  "It's one of them oxy…., oxy…."

"Oxymoron's," Ezra finished for him.

"Yeah, that's the word.  There's ton's of 'em," Vin said.

"I got one," JD said holding up his glass, "PLASTIC GLASSES."

"How about GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION and VIRTUAL REALITY," Vin added.

"Don't forget WORK PARTY, as if work could be considered a party, and WORKING VACATION.  How many of those have we had." Ezra joined in
their fun.

"Yeah, and LIVING DEAD, HEAD BUTT, oh and I love TAPED LIVE, like they could tape something it they were dead," JD laughing wiping away the
tears.

"There's always those appearance ones, PRETTY UGLY, HEALTHY TAN, and the dreaded HEAD BUTT," Buck added nodding at the beer Vin was
holding up to him in a toast.

"Oh, oh, JUMBO SHRIMP," Vin gasped out through his laughter then glancing at Chris added, "DODGE RAM."

"Hey, nothing wrong with a DODGE RAM," Chris said unable to hold back his own laughter.  "You're forgetting SILENT SCREAM, TAX RETURN, and
PEACE FORCE."

"I have some," Josiah told them, "there's TIGHT SLACKS and SAME DIFFERENCE."

"There's technical ones too," Nathan said thinking if you can't beat 'em join 'em, "PERSONAL COMPUTER and MICROSOFT WORKS.  But one of my
favorites is ALONE TOGETHER."

All the tensions from work faded away with their laughter as they spent the next hour coming up with more oxymoron's.

Four, Fore, For Drabbles

OW

Chris and Vin had four of the town's children sitting with them on the bench outside of the saloon.  Five year old Betsy Mitchell sat in Chris' lap
listening to him read a story to the children.  In Vin's lap sat 22 month old Rosie Travis happily eating some apple slices Vin had given her.
Rosie's older brother five year old Josh sat leaning up against his hero, Vin who had an arm loosely wrapped around the boy.  The oldest child of
the group, Billy Travis, sat between Josh and Chris with his head resting on Chris' arm.

Josiah chuckled at he walked up on the group in time to see Rosie's chubby fingers grab a piece of apple for Vin.  Vin winked at her then let her
feed him the apple slice making Rosie laugh with glee.

"Mister Chris," Betsy asked after Chris stopped reading to greet Josiah, "what's for e?"

"What?" Chris replied.

"See it says for e fathers," Betsy explained pointing to the spot in the book Chris was reading them.

"That's pronounced fore, the e is silent," Chris said.

"Teacher said for is spelt f o r, no e," Betsy added.

"Betsy's right Mister Chris," Josh joined in, "Teacher said that."

"Yep," Billy said, "unless it's the number four, then there's a u."

"How come it has a e Mister Chris?" Betsy asked.

"Yeah, Chris," Vin said his eyes sparkling with mirth, "how come?"

Chris held back his glare as he smirked at Vin, the look promising payback when the kids weren't around.  "They all sound the same but there are
three spellings of the word which all mean different things.  For the one Teacher told you about, the number four, and fore with an e which means
coming before.  So forefathers would be people who lived before all of us," Chris explained smiling as all the kids and Vin nodded their
understanding.

ATF

"Damn," Vin said glaring at his computer.

"What's wrong Vin," JD asked as he walked over to Vin's desk.

"At least four times that I found I fat fingered for and typed fore instead," Vin told JD, "and spell checker never caught it."

"That's 'cause fore is a word," Nathan told Vin.

"Dang, I hate it when I spell something wrong and it's a word so spell check doesn't find it," Buck admitted.

"You're telling me I have to read the whole report over to find them all," Vin moaned at the thought.

"Relax Vin," JD told him, "we can use find and replace and it'll be fine."

"Thanks JD," Vin said breathing a sigh of relief.

Halloween Drabbles

ATF

Inez had gone all out in decorating the saloon for this year's Halloween party fund raiser for the Denver Law Enforcement Charities Foundation.
Six members of ATF Team Seven were already enjoying the party while they waited for their seventh.  They had decided to have a theme to their
costumes this year and go as characters from TV shows.

Dressed as Josh Randall, Steve McQueen's character in Wanted Dead or Alive, Vin turned to JD to ask, "Where is he?"

JD, who was dressed as Colonel Jack O'Neil in Stargate SG1, replied, "He said he'd meet us here."

"He'll be here," Chris, dressed as Paladin from Have Gun Will Travel, assured them.

"How long can it take to put on a Hawaiian shirt and come as Tom Selleck from Magnum PI?" Vin asked.

"Magnum would be appropriate Mr Tanner," Ezra added brushing some lint off his gambler outfit as Bret Maverick from the series Maverick.

"Nathan, you need help," JD called out to Nathan, who was dressed as Cliff Huxtable of The Cosby Show and carrying a tray with a pitcher of beer
and some mugs.

"Thanks JD but Josiah's bringing the rest," Nathan answered as Josiah walked up carrying another tray and dressed as Andy Taylor from the Andy
Griffith Show.

"What is that?" Josiah asked as Buck walked up to them dressed in a black sweat suit covered with leaves.

At their confused looks Buck smiled broadly and said, "Boys, I'm the Fall Guy."

It took all of one second before his teammates started laughing and shaking their heads.

NOTE:  I can't take credit for Buck's costume idea, a friend of mine wore it to a party in the 80's around the time the Lee Majors series about stunt men,
The Fall Guy, was on.  

OW

"What cha looking at JD?" Vin asked walking up to his friend on the foggy Halloween night.

JD debated about saying anything but he needed to be sure.  "That big ole jack-o-lantern over there, in front of Conklin's.  It moved."

Vin tried not to laugh as he said, "You sure you aren't seeing things after listening to Josiah read that Legend of Sleepy Hollow story?"

"I ain't sure but it look liked it moved," JD said embarrassed by the whole thing.  "It moved again, did you see it?"

"Dang, you're right JD," Vin said studying the pumpkin closely "it sure looked like it moved."

"What's so interesting," Buck asked startling the two men.

Vin looked back at Buck and Chris then at JD before he decided JD could explain.  When JD did, Buck and Chris doubted at first until a small
movement by the pumpkin made them wonder.

It wasn't long before all seven peacekeepers were out on the boardwalk studying the jack-o-lantern.  "JD go touch it and see what happens,"
Buck suggested.

"No, let's all go," JD replied.

Curiosity overcame fear as the seven men slowly approached the large pumpkin.  They were almost to it when it began to rock and fell off the
table, breaking when it hit the ground.  A small black cat popped out from inside the pumpkin and ran off.

The peacekeepers looked at each other knowing Josiah's story had fueled their imaginations.  Smiles slowly formed, followed by a soft chuckle,
then the laughter began.  Silently they all promised each other this would stay just between them.

Fall Drabbles

OW

Vin had instructed them all that being invited the Kojay's village for the annual fall harvest festival was an honor.  He had been listened to Josiah
tell one of his proverbs about the importance of being a guest and thought direct would be better so he interrupted with his own brand of
communication.

Chris knowing how important this was to Vin and Josiah said, "Everyone will be on our best behavior."  He made eye contact with each of them,
letting them know if they messed up they would have to deal with him first.

Once at the village Vin and Josiah took turns, one would join in the celebration while the other was explaining the customs to their friends.  That
night the seven men were quiet as they sat around their campfire.

Buck broke the silence saying much softer than they were used to from him, "Vin, Josiah, today meant a lot to me."  He looked down at his coffee
to gather his thoughts before looking up to met his friends eyes willing them to understand, "I thought it would be a bunch of hooey, I was wrong
their traditions are powerful.  I don't think I'll ever look at fall the same again."

ATF

Vin smiled as he watched Amy's face, she practically glowed with excitement as Yosemite pulled up in the wagon for their hayride.  When she had
told him the fall tradition of a hayride was one she always wanted to do, Vin was a man on a mission.

The ride he planned was finally here and he had to admit he was excited too.  Yosemite stopped the wagon in front of them and waited for Vin to
help Amy on followed by his friends who each helped on their lady.

Sitting near the front of the wagon Chris and Vin had Holly and Amy sit between them for added warmth.  Josiah, Bess, Anna, and Nathan sat on
Chris' side, while Ezra, Stephanie, JD, Kim, Meg, and Buck sat on Vin's side.  Vin took the blankets from Yosemite for their laps.  Once he was
satisfied everyone would stay as warm as possible he signaled Yosemite to start the hour long ride.

Yosemite drove them through the meadow for a view of the fall colors surrounding them.  He even joined in when Josiah suggested they sing
songs.  All too soon for the cuddling couples the ride was coming to an end.  Yosemite told Vin he could handle the horses and wagon by himself
and to go join the others who were heading for the house.

They all agreed when Buck suggested they make the hayride an annual tradition before going inside for the homemade stew and warm biscuits
Vin had waiting for their dinner.

Animals Drabbles

ATF

The group of three men left their truck hidden down the road before creeping up on the Larabee Ranch.  “You sure this is the place,” one asked.

“Yep, let’s stake it out,” his friend replied.

They watched two men taking care of the many animals.  “I see horses, dogs, cats, pigs, a goat, and even a duck but not what we’re looking for.”

“Hey, look the long haired one is going to the playpen.”  The three shared a smile as they watched Vin pull back the sheet covering the playpen
to reveal the item of their quest.

A woman walked out on the porch to call out, “Vin, Chris, dinner’s ready.”

The men waited about five minutes after Vin and Chris followed the lady inside, wanting them to be at the table eating while they grabbed their
prize.  They didn’t know ducks would make a ruckus when a stranger was near.  They froze waiting for the men inside to charge out as the duck
quacked, the goat charged them, while the pigs and dogs made a protective circle around the playpen.

Turning to make a hasty retreat the three would-be thieves found themselves face to face with the guns of seven men.  “Going somewhere,”
Chris growled.

Vin looked over at the playpen and saw Amy reaching in.  “The little fella all right?”

Amy lifted the baby panda out of the playpen pulling him tightly against her chest before answering, “He’s fine.  The animals did a good job
protecting him.”

Vin laughed remembering his hesitation when Amy told them with Quackers the duck on duty they didn’t need to set up a guard for the panda AD
Travis had asked them to protect.  They had only agreed because they thought there was no real threat.

Chris’ glare was in full force as the three men confessed they had been hired by Reginald Von Herr, a wealthy collector of exotic animals, to bring
him the panda.

OW

JD was in heaven, not only had Vin taken him out for a tracking lesson but when Vin found a set of tracks he couldn’t identify he and JD followed
them.  They had been at the pond, Vin patiently waited while JD pointed out tracks of a family of deer, a bear, and a raccoon before he found the
one he didn’t know.

When Vin couldn’t identify them either the two men decided to track the animal and get a closer look.  JD was thrilled when Vin let JD take the
lead with the tracking duties saying, “You’re the one that found ‘em first, you should be the one to track ‘em.”

Vin was true to his word, only stepping up to help when JD got stuck.  They knew they were getting close when their horses started to get jumpy.
Leaving their horses tied up, Vin and JD quietly approached the clearing.

“Never seen anything like that before,” Vin said as they peeked through the bushes.

“It’s a Bengal tiger,” JD told him.  At Vin’s curious look he added, “Saw one once when my Ma and I went to the circus.”

“Hey, JD,” Vin asked a smile forming on his face, “ain’t there a circus coming to town.”

JD’s face also lit up with a smile, “You thinking he escaped from circus.”

“Reckon so.”

“There might even be a reward if we bring him back.  Can’t leave him here probably wouldn’t survive.”

Distracted by their quiet conversation they were surprised to turn back and find themselves face to face with the tiger.  Fortunately for them the
tiger was very tame and instead of attacking he licked their faces.

The next day, Vin and JD created quite a stir as they rode into town with a Bengal tiger walking between them.

Rivals Drabbles

OW

JD’s body was relaxed as the bandanna dropped signaling the start of the horse race.  He pulled ahead racing out of town toward the old tree,
the halfway point.  Steadily putting distance between him and his rival JD smiled when he thought this time he would win.  Several times recently
his rival had won, but JD knew he was the better rider and had a faster horse.

Rounding the tree and heading for home JD thought about his rival, but instead of remembering being shown up, his mind filled with the
support.  ‘Was his pride getting in the way of his friendship,’ JD thought.  Without hesitation JD slowed his horse.  One look and they both knew.
Friendship was the winner as JD and Buck rode into town, side by side.

ATF

Chris couldn’t believe this was happening, it was supposed to be a friendly softball game between the ATF and the DPD for charity.  Standing next
to Vin, the two men filled out the ER paperwork for their two injured comrades.

Chris thought he wouldn’t have been so shocked if it had been Vin, Buck, JD, Ezra, or even himself who got carried away by the rivalry of the
game.  Nathan and Josiah never crossed his mind as being so competitive.  The five men stood as the nurse push Nathan in the wheelchair.  He
called out, “Hi guys, Josiah’ll be fine he’s getting stitches.”  They laughed as they heard Nathan say to the nurse taking him to x-ray, “It was the
play of the game, right up there with the majors….”

Break/Brake Drabbles

OW

Nathan pulled back on the reins while he pushed on the brake to bring the buckboard to a stop at the secluded spot Vin had directed Nathan and
Rain to for their picnic.

Later while relaxing in the shade with Rain sleeping in his arms, Nathan thought about all his friends did. They divided the arrangements up so all
Nathan had to do was get on the buckboard and go.  Vin and Josiah brought Rain to town, Ezra the food, Chris the wine, and Buck and JD the
horse and wagon.  He was amazed that they did it all just to give him a well deserved break.

ATF

Buck pumped the brake pedal desperately trying to get them to work.  Glancing over at JD and Vin he said, “Hold on boys, it’s gonna be a wild
ride.”

Vin and JD were impressed at Buck’s driving, sharing a look they laughed to realize they were both wondering if Buck extraordinary efforts were
to save them or his beloved truck.  Several close calls later Buck finally was able to pull his truck to a stop in the soft grass.

Vin called Chris to pick them up while Buck check over his lady for damage and JD gathered up their groceries.  “Hey Buck,” JD called holding up
a sack, “look you didn’t break a single egg.”

Coming Home Drabbles

ATF

Coming off a long undercover assignment Ezra was very tired so he told the others he just wanted to stay home to sleep and not come spend the
weekend with them at Chris'.  He had come home Friday night and here it was Saturday evening and he still couldn't seem to unwind.  Ezra
grabbed the keys to his Jag and decided going for a ride would clear his mind.

He shook his head when he found himself turning into Chris' driveway.   He saw all the other's vehicles parked around the yard.  *I'll just stop by
for a drink and then head home,* he thought to himself.  Ezra couldn't explain the feeling of peace that came over him as he stepped onto Chris'
porch.  He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.  Home, that's what the feeling was, he was home.

Opening his eyes Ezra smiled when he saw Vin and Chris standing there waiting for him.  Vin held out a brandy for Ezra as he said, "Welcome
home, pard."

Ezra's smile grew as he took the brandy replying, "It's good to be home, my friends."

OW

Dusk settled around the trail weary men, they could have stopped for the night but they were so close they decided to keep riding.  The outlaw
gang they had trailed led them on a merry chase before finally surrendering without much of a fight.

The seven peacekeepers had dropped their prisoners off two towns ago, allowing them the luxury of relaxing in their saddles.  They rode along
at the same slow pace until they crested the last hill, without any command from the seven riders all the horse picked up their pace a little bit.

With each step the men also seemed to perk up, slumped shoulder straightened, posture improved, and slight smiles appeared.  All outward
signs of the exhaustion the peacekeepers felt vanished as they rode down the street of the town they all now called home.

Crossover Drabbles

ATF/The Unit

"Damn", Jonas said dropping the file, "everything in here says Larabee won't give up his arrest without a fight."

"Maybe not," Mack said with a smile showing Jonas the file he was looking at.

"Can we trust him," Jonas asked.

"I was planning on recruiting him for the unit until he left the Rangers," Mack said nodding.

At Jonas' smile Mack dialed the phone, "Hey, Vin.  It's Mack."

Three days later Team Seven's bust went down without a hitch.  Chris and Vin escorted the prisoner outside and calmly handed him over to Jonas
and Mack.

"Good to see ya again Mack," Vin drawled smiling.

ATF/Criminal Minds

Josiah and Nathan had arrived in Philadelphia a few hours earlier for a profiler's conference.  Tired from their flight they decided to have dinner
at their hotel and call it a night.  Chris had talked the ATF into letting Nathan attend as Josiah's backup and for the medical forensics.

They were enjoying their dinner when Josiah heard, "Josiah is that really you?"

Josiah turned and started to laugh, "Jason Gideon, I should have known you'd be here."

Spenser Reid was surprised to see his friend so animated as each of the friends introducing their companions.

"I have a feeling we're gonna really enjoy this conference," Nathan said lifting his drink in a toast.

Flying Drabbles

OW

Josiah let out a happy sigh when he put his bare feet in the pond he and Vin were camped next to.  The two were returning from an errand for the
Judge and had stopped early for the night.  It was a hot day so both men had removed their boots and socks, and rolled up their pant legs to cool
off by soaking their feet.

Josiah looked Vin who was watching an eagle flying high overhead.  “Have you ever wondered what it would be like to soar free Vin?”

“Ya mean flying?” Vin replied.

Josiah smiled saying, “Yeah, you probably know the way you fly over the rooftops protecting our backs?”

“Comes close, must be somethin’ being up in the clouds,” Vin said wistfully.  “How about you, ya every came close to flying?”

“Closest I came was as a boy,” Josiah said with a happy smile, “swing on a rope to drop into the pond.”

The two men looked at each other, smiles growing, then at the pond.  Josiah nodded at the hopeful look in Vin’s eyes as they jumped up and
started to remove their clothes.  Both were laughing as Vin went to his saddle saying, “I got a rope we can use.”

ATF

Chris was regretting sending Nathan to the preventing accidents seminar.  They all knew the man meant well and he was only concerned about
their health but one more lecture on what they were doing wrong and Chris was going to be hard pressed to stop himself of shooting Nathan let
alone protect him from the others.

The bust had gone well, no shots fired, no one hurt.  Yet during their final walk through Nathan started in on Vin and JD about taking risk and how
they never saw him getting into accidents.  Nathan was so busy lecturing Vin and JD he didn’t see the snare that was hidden and stepped right
into it.  Nathan’s panicked scream alerted the others there was a problem.  Turning they saw their friend hanging upside down swinging from the
rope wrapped around his ankles.

“Get me down,” Nathan roared.

Only thinking of a little payback for all the lectures they’d been listening to the others pushed him from one to the other.

“So Nate,” Buck called out, “what’s it like to go flying without a plane.”

They all laughed when JD and Vin grinned at each other and started to sing, “He flies through the air with the greatest of easy.”

Fire, Shirt, Rain, Camp, Bird, Park, and Down Drabbles

Use these words in your drabble:  Fire, shirt, rain, camp, bird, park, down.

ATF

Ezra shook out his shirt trying in vain to find something dry to wear.  The others sat near the fire watching Ezra mumble to himself.  “No, Ezra, they
said let’s camp in the park.  We can watch for animals, maybe see a bird or two, no one said anything about insistent rain.”

Ezra sat down glaring at the others, “I said there was a perfectly good lodge nearby, but nooooooo!”

Vin and Chris looked at each other then smiled.  They both stood as Chris ordered, “Break camp, we’re moving to Ezra’s lodge.”  At Ezra’s
surprised look Chris added, “We’re miserable too.”

ATF

JD, Vin, and Josiah accompanied a group of boys from the Purgatory Youth Center to the park.  Studying Indian customs and they had asked Vin
and Josiah to help.

Reaching the secluded area Vin had selected Josiah each of them to remove their shirt and had them sit in a circle.  Hearing a noise Vin point as
he said to the boys, “It’s that bird over there, down in the gully.”

For the next couple of hours JD was as fascinated as the boys listening to Vin and Josiah telling the legends of rain and fire, and life in an Indian
camp.

Complement/Compliment Drabbles

COMPLEMENT-that which completes or brings to perfection, the amount or number needed to fill or complete

COMPLIMENT-a formal act or expression of courtesy or respect, something said in admiration, praise, or flattery

ATF

Vin and JD were fed up with their teammates advice for the past two weeks.  Especially when each of their friends told them not to say a word at
the party, just because the two men enjoyed junk food didn’t mean they couldn’t function at a formal event.

Ignoring Chris’ glare they sat themselves on either side of the hostess.  When the main course was served, Vin smiled at the hostess saying, “My
compliments to the chef, each bite has a full complement of flavor.”

“I do believe I detect a hint of rosemary,” JD added shocking the others into total silence as Vin and JD charmed their hostess.

OW

Ezra brushed a small piece of lint off his jacket as he joined the others for dinner.  He looked surprised when he pulled out the silk handkerchief
from the package Vin gave him.  “Saw it over at the store,” Vin explained, “thought it would complement your outfit.”

“You thought it would complement my outfit,” Ezra repeated shocked at how well it matched.

“Yep, ya look good but that finishes it off,” Vin said.  Noticing Ezra’s mouth hanging open Vin added, “Don’t mean nothing Ez, thought ya’d like it is
all.”

“I do,” Ezra replied sincerely, “thank you for the compliment my friend.”

Jumping Drabbles

OW

One by one six of the peacekeepers wandered behind the stables to find their seventh jumping from one platform to another before he stopped
to move the platforms farther apart then jumped again.

Unable to stop himself Buck asked, “JD, what are you doing?

JD’s eyes were bright with excitement when he replied, “Hi guys, I was watching Vin jump from rooftop to rooftop and thought if I could jump like
that I could help up high.”

“Practicing down here,” Vin said nodding his approval.

“Yep, if I’m gonna fall I wanna be closer to the ground,” JD announced with a huge smile.

ATF

“Please explain to me why I am doing this,” Ezra grumbled adjusting his costume.

“It’s a fund raiser for the Mission,” JD replied peaking through the curtains at the audience.

Buck added, “We needed five and since you’re the one that knocked Vin down the stairs spraining his knee your elected.”

“Team Seven,” the stage manager announced, “you’re up next.”

“Oh joy,” Ezra sighed.

From the audience Vin told Chris, “This is one time I don’t mind being hurt.”

The curtain opened to Team Seven jumping in time with the music at they impersonated ‘N Sync singing “Bye Bye Bye.”

Cup, Lamp, Pillow, Wide, and Boots Drabbles

ATF

Buck and Chris managed to maneuver a drunken JD through the CDC.  They made a wide circle as they slowly worked their way to JD’s room.
They had been celebrating the end of a hard case that night and discovered JD was a handful when drunk so Chris offered to help Buck.

Buck was removing JD’s boots when Chris brought in a cup of water for JD.  Chris placed the cup next to the lamp on the night stand turning
back to help Buck get JD into bed.  The two men smiled at each other when as soon as JD’s head hit the pillow he slurred “Thanks guys,” then
snored softly.

OW

Vin and Chris had taken a few days off from their peacekeeping duties to do a little hunting.  The darkness settled in around them as Vin removed
his boots and settled in on top of his bedroll.  Taking a sip from his cup of coffee Vin let out a satisfied sigh.  Chris smiled at his relaxed friend
saying, “You love it out here don’t you.”

“Hell,” Vin replied with a smile of his own, “what’s not to love, a saddle for your pillow, the moon for a lamp, the wide open spaces, and a good
friend to share it with.”

Chris lifted his cup in a salute and said, “Ain’t that the truth.”

Don’t go do anything stupid Drabbles

OW

Nettie felt the anger radiating off Vin as he picked her up off the boardwalk where a group of four drunks knocked her trying to get to the saloon.
Worriedly she said, “Now don’t go do anything stupid.”

Vin voice was hard as he growled, “Teaching them some manners isn’t stupid.”

“Not hardly,” Chris added his anger matching Vin’s at Nettie’s treatment.

“A little respect too,” Josiah spoke up as he and Nathan joined them.

“I do believe a show of force is called for gentlemen,” Ezra announced.

“Count us in,” Buck spoke for him and JD.

Nettie smiled at the Seven men surrounding her saying, “You’ll be excellent teachers.”

ATF

JD looked at Buck and then the man that challenged him.  JD knew Buck was good but this guy looked like he could handle Buck with no problem.

JD grabbed Buck’s arm as Buck stood up “Don’t go doing anything stupid.”

Buck just smiled saying, “Don’t worry kid, I know what I’m doing.”

Holding his hand out Buck indicated the challenger should lead the way.  JD shook his head as he watch Buck walk over to sign up for the Elvis
look-alike contest that was being held at the Saloon that night.

Country Songs Drabbles

The look in JD’s eyes told Buck he stopped his story A LITTLE TOO LATE.  *Damn,’* Buck thought as he realized JD had opened his soul to him only
to have Buck launch into one of his many humorous stories.

Taking a breath Buck knew he had to start BUILDING BRIDGES to repair the hurt his careless words had caused.  “Sorry JD,” Buck said softly his
eyes pleading with JD for forgiveness.  “LIFE AIN’T ALWAYS BEAUTIFUL, I didn’t mean to make light of your feelings.  I been meaning to ride out to
see that view Vin told us about, WOULD YOU GO WITH ME?”

Buck released the breath he was holding when he saw JD smile as he said, “Heard it’s a good place to talk.”

OW

The would-be outlaws crept along the side of the bank, their leader thinking ‘ME AND MY GANG are going to show everyone.’  Their movement
stopped at the sound of a gun cocking.   Turning to see Vin Tanner and Chris Larabee behind them was frightening but when Tanner snarled at
them saying, “PROVE ME RIGHT,” it was all they could do to stay standing.

“CALL ME CRAZY Mr Larabee, but I do believe these gentlemen plan to rob our bank,” Ezra said walking out from the shadows.

Ezra was joined by Josiah who added, “Let’s BRING IT ON HOME to the jail boys.”

Sent, Scent, Cent, and Thanks Drabble

ATF

Desperation sent Vin to the mall that Saturday for Nettie’s birthday gift.  He had wanted to carve her a special picture frame with a picture of the
two of them that JD had taken at a family picnic to say thanks for she had done for him but work thought it needed his time more.

Vin walked up to the perfume counter hoping to find Nettie’s favorite scent.  He smiled as he saw a small blond boy picking out some perfume for
his Mom, it was Nettie’s scent.    A tiny hand opened to dropped one cent on the counter, smiling brightly as the boy waited for the clerk to take
his money.

Vin saw the woman start to tell the boy he didn’t have enough so Vin jumped in saying, “Great special, buy one get one for a cent.”  Vin placed his
bottle next to the boy’s and handed the clerk his credit card, eyes sent her a pleading look to understand.  Her relieved smile as she took his
card told Vin she did.

That night at dinner Nettie unwrapped Vin’s gift.  Their eyes met, Vin smiled as he said for her ears only, “Thanks, for believing.”

Pirate Drabbles

Costume Party - ATF
Team three was feeling smug at the annual ATF costume party.  They were positive their gangster outfits would win the top prize for the best
costumes this year after coming second to team seven for the past three years.  They turned to see what had caused a group of nearby women
sigh they saw team seven come in.
Dressed as pirates, team seven seemed to swagger into the room.  Skin tight pants with shirts that hung open revealing firmly muscled chests,
causing more than one heart to flutter, was more competition than the gangsters could handle.
Rockies Game  - ATF
The men of team seven rushed to make it for the open pitch of the Rockies baseball game against the Pirates.  Hurrying to their seats some of
their enthusiasm faded when they realized their seats were in the middle of the Pirates booster club.
The crowd around them was dressed as pirates and were having a great time pretending to be pirates as they cheered for their team.  Buck
looked over in shock as Vin and then JD grabbed their beers and yelled along "yo ho ho and a bottle of rum".  Seeing the huge smile on their two
youngest faces it didn't take long before all seven joined in the festivities.

Earth, Air, Fire, and Water Drabbles

OW

Wind fanned the flames, filling the air with smoke while scorching the earth.  Seven men and two women fought to save Nettie and Casey's home
from the approaching fire.

Nettie and Casey were handing buckets of water up to JD and Buck who were wetting the roof down on the house.

Vin, Chris, Josiah, Nathan, and Ezra were clearing a ditch, hoping the bare earth would stop the fire.

Wiping a hand over his soot covered face Ezra said, "Josiah, communicate to God that rain would be welcome now."

As soon as he said the words the rain started to fall.  The air carried nine voices cheering as they watched the water sizzle then slowly stop the
fire.

Josiah slapped a shocked Ezra on the back, "From your mouth to God's ear brother."

ATF

Josiah was in his glory explaining the four elements spiritual experience, which for the first time all six of his teammates attended.  Josiah's voice
boomed through the night air as he pointed out the elements.

"The first element is air, we will travel through a wind tunnel.  Then earth, we will lay in the mud bath.  Next the fire walk, representing fire.  Lastly
we end with water and dip in the lake."

The large group, all wearing nothing but swimsuits, looked around doubtfully.  Vin leaned over to Chris and asked, "Tell me again why we're here."

Ghosts of the Past

OW
JD smiled as he watched a young mother and her son get off the stage.  The boy was bouncing with excitement as he looked around trying to
absorb as much as he could.  His Mom smiled down at him, her pride evident in the warm loving smile.
It reminded JD of when he was a boy and his Mom had taken them to the circus.  JD wanted to see it all so his Mom indulgently held his hand and
let him drag her from show to show.  That night as she tucked in her exhausted son into bed she gently kissed his cheek and whisper, "I'm so
proud of my little man."
The memory pulled at JD's heart, making him wonder if she would still be proud.  At that thought the breeze picked up, wind gently kissed JD's
cheek and carried a soft whisper, "I'm so proud of my grown up man."

7 Number and 7 Colors Drabbles

ATF LB – Buck and JD

Buck walked into the playroom expecting to find a very bored JD since Vin was sick and couldn’t play with him.  Instead he found JD quietly sitting
on the floor with piles of crayons around him.  Curious Buck asked, “What cha doing there Lit’l Bit?”

“Countin’,” JD replied not looking up.

Buck walked around to sit in front of JD and waited.  His patience was rewarded when JD looked up at him and said gleefully, “Da, did ya know we
gots five greens, ‘n eight oranges, ‘n three blues, ‘n ten pinks, ‘n seven reds, ‘n four browns, ‘n only two blacks.”

ATF

Vin and JD stomped into the office, followed by a calm Ezra.  Vin turned to Chris and growled, “Don’t you ever send us undercover in a florist
shop with him again.”

“Yeah,” JD piped in waving his hand around, “oh no, you need two purple carnations with those three white roses.”

“A mixed arrangement should be colorful,” Vin mimicked Ezra, “seven yellow, five pink, six coral, eight blue, and four friggin’ fuchsias.”

Laughter filled the room releasing the anger the two men felt as they pranced around as if they were fluffing up the perfect bouquet

Title Drabble

ATF – Vin and Josiah

Vin walked into to the break room, hearing moans he looked over to see Josiah clutching his stomach.

“You okay, Josiah,” Vin asked.

“I will be,” Josiah answered before he drank the alka seltzer he was holding.  “I had a BLT for lunch and now I’m having the attack of the killer
tomatoes in my stomach.”
“They spoiled,” Vin said concerned for his friend.

“Nope,” Josiah managed a weak smile, “I love tomatoes but they don’t love me.”
