| Season Of Love by Mary Ann |

| ~Cold~ by Mary Ann Cold wind swirled snow around the two men and their horses, as they peered ahead through the thickening snow and last of the grey daylight. Bundled against the cold, their faces partly covered but breaths still froze in the air forming crystals in the flying wind. "I wish we were home already." "So do I. I hate this cold and snow." "Winds cold, I can barely feel my legs and feet." "Feet? There's feet down there? Thought it was just lumps of cold iron." "Why can't we go faster?" "Not safe anymore. Ice under this snow. One bad step could end up with a broken leg or bad fall, and then we'd be stuck out here in this." "How much farther?" " Not sure now, hard to see in this. Maybe less than two miles?" "I feel like I'm slowly freezing to death." "Hang on. I think we're almost there." "Can't believe how cold it is. Not use to this." "Yeah, it’s been a long time since I was this cold. I'm hoping to get some extra blankets to get warm in." "There's plenty of those around. I'm sure we'll get some." "Look! Lights ahead. I can see buildings now too." "I see them. Finally, we're home. Time for some warmth and food." "We can go a little faster now too. I can see the livery stable ahead, and the saloon is all lit up too. Time to get out of this weather." "Ohhh...warmth finally, no wind or snow and it’s a lot warmer in here!" "Now if they will just hurry and get these cold saddles off of us, and blankets on, we will be warm real fast." Pony said to his companion Peso, as Chris and Vin stiffly dismounted, and started to unsaddle them in the warmth of the large barn. Mary Ann July 2006 |
